...functional as in text, calls, etc? I've been thinking about posting an ad on craigslist to trade my phone for a black berry bold or curve, and I was wondering do you have to have the data plan for the phone to actually work.

I understand you have to have it for the internet and email to work but what about text message and picture message and calling?
I'm not getting it threw a tmobile retalier/store I'm trading phones with somebody off craigslist.
