Do you have squealing brakes on your Ford Focus?

I bought a Focus a few months ago and the brakes were squealing something terrible. I discovered that may owners seem to experience this. I found several people who were selling their vehicles on the local craigslist and emailed them asking them ... and to my surprise, several people wrote back and said their cars were making noise from the day they bought it. My car was making noise too, but it didn't do it often. Within about two months, every time I stepped on the brakes and was going 40mph or less, there was this screeching, squealing noise. Anyone else experiencing this? The problem was solved by returning the vehicle to the dealership who replaced the drums and pads for nearly $600 and refused to pay for or contribute to the repairs. The manufacturer was no help stating the the technical service bulletin which advised replacement of these parts was not the same as a recall and that because the brakes were still safe, there was no obligation to do anything.
 
Only other way to fix is to remove and take to local tire service center and have them turned, not much, like .005 to rough them up and change the shoes and pads.
