phenytoin (Dilantan)? My seizures started when I was in junior high. I was initially put on phenobarbital for about six years, then was switched to phenytoin (brand name: Dilantin). I haven't had a seizure since 1991 (I am 37 years old now). The only times I had seizures after I was prescribed medication was when I lapsed in taking the medication. None of my doctor's know what caused the seizures (though I did get hit by a car when I was five...but I just got a broken leg and arm). Some have suggested stress, but I was never under THAT much stress.
My seizures were grand mal (I would twitch quite a bit...had slurred speech and difficulty forming words even though I knew what I wanted to say...and I would be crying because of the huge migraine I got). I always had "warning" when a seizure was about to hit...I would see red spots in my upper right peripheral vision and it would quickly envelop my entire vision. After about 20 or 30 seconds the seizure went into full force. However, at this point my memory goes blank and after about 20 minutes or less, the seizure would stop and I would "come to" (but I never lost consciousness)
Just curious if any of you have a similar history and if you know what caused them to begin with.
