Do you get reimbursed when subpoena to a deposition?

I just received a subpoena to testify in a sexual misconduct case of a former co-worker. I now live 2 hours away so I will be driving 2 hours to testify for 15 minutes and drive 2 hours back not to mention pay a baby sitter for 4 1/2 hours of being with the kids. Will I get any reimbursement from the courts?

It depends on your state's laws. Sometimes they pay a set rate per mile, etc. There's usually something about reimbursements right on the paper you were served...at least there is here in CA.

From the court? No way.

You may have a claim against the plaintiff or the defense or both if you have nothing to testify and that is known.

If this really is going to take 15 minutes then contact the legal counsel and see if there is some other way you can testify or submit a sworn statement without traveling. Two hours each way is a lot of hassle for 15 minutes.
