I like to smile at strangers as I'm walking past if they look down. Just to brighten their day a bit.

Do you find it weird when strangers smile at you? or do you like it?

I only do it cause someone randomly smiled at me once and it made my day. But I get some weird looks sometimes, mainly from attractive women (cause im pretty unattractive, and they must be pretty wary of strangers smiling at them.

I've been told I have a contagious smile.

In American culture, this is considered weird in general. Who knows why. You should continue on the off chance you actually do brighten up someone's day
 
I smile at passersby all the time and there is nothing wrong with it. Happiness spreads and people are much more attractive when they smile.
