Do you equate love with the opposite sex; intimacy; with weakness? Why or why not?

I've heard both sides of the story: Live is a weakness - Falling in love with someone of the opposite sex, and letting your emotions get the better of you, is an illogical mistake because it allows for the closing of the mind, and for you to keep within your circle; and most important, prevents you from reaching your potential. Love, for the sake of love, brings you down; it is a liability; because it brings to the light your shortcomings and your vulnerabilities.
Seeking of knowledge and understanding is a pivotal role in one's life, because knowledge; of understanding; is power, and power allows the controlling of one's life and path. With love, the illusion of knowledge and understanding crops up for love believes it has fulfilled these.
Being without love allows you to focus on one's self, and uncover more about yourself.

Love is a strength - Love allows you further reach your potential, because of the extension having someone to love, and they to love you, allows for. Sometimes you cannot travel far down the path of life without aid there to help you. Alone, you can fall. Together, you can rise to expectations.
Love strengthens you, allowing you to overcome your vulnerabilities and shortcomings by lending you strength that having a strong connection with another can bring. For to leave such negative traits in the darkness allows only contemptuous breeding of self-doubts.
Love also allows you to discover who you are, while to be without love allows loneliness, and an awry lost path.

Of which do you believe is true? I'm curious about people's opinions on these two ideals.
