I married the only son of Catholic-Hispanics, and they don't like me because I'm neither. They actually told him not to marry me. They also hate me because I have a couple of tattoos, everyone in my family is divorced, and I have chosen not to have children (and when you deny conservative Hispanic people grandkids from their only son, they are not very nice about it).
But, it really doesn't bother me. I mean, I know it sounds like it does, but it doesn't. I married my husband, not his family. I don't need them to like me, nor do I feel the need to spend any time with them and try to convince them how great I am. I HAVE a family. I'm not an orphan. So, when we go home for visits (we live 6 hours away from our home town now), my hubby drops me off at my mom's, and he goes on to his parents. We spend a couple days, and he picks me up on our way back home.
Does anyone think that's weird? Would it really matter to you if your in-laws didn't like you? Would that actually deter you from marrying someone?
