Do you believe the saying, "never discuss politics or religion" is a good or bad idea?

The saying is intended to reduce arguments and disagreements between friends and family members. Granted, political disagreements can get pretty negative for relationships between friends and family if there's a lot of opposing views.

My question is... do you think it's cowardly to silence yourself on these issues? Isn't it best to voice your views? If people can't handle opposing opinions, isn't that their problem? Or do you think it's best to avoid political and religious conversations? Which do you think is better?
Sylvester: I heard those same stories being told by a conservative talk-show radiohost. What was the name of the guy that told them?

yes it is a good idea.
add to it:
never ask a women her age or a man his occupation.

Depends on who you are talking to and where you are at. I would not discuss it in person with someone I did not know well. Here I try to offset misinformation and can do so with some measure of anonymous safety. It is not cowardly to be self protective.
