that have made health care expensive? What is the problem? Health care is too expensive. Why? Too few doctors, very expensive medical school, expensive lawsuit insurance premiums for doctors to pay (in addition to their school loans), expensive lawsuit payouts, very expensive medical equipment, AND not all hospital visitors pay their bill (the insured are already paying for the uninsured). We can fix all of these things for a remarkably lower cost, but none of those possible solutions are even on the table. All we want to do is "cover" uninsured people through a combination of government health insurance and mandated coverage through private means (which means they will see "nah, i'll just take the free govt insurance).

Additionally, a number of people have pointed out that of those 47 million uninsured, a number of them don't want to spend money on it even though they can afford it. Are you going to force them to buy it now? A number are illegal aliens. Are they going to qualify for it? I can almost guarantee you they will, despite the objections of the Democrats.

Furthermore, people complain that private health insurance companies won't accept people with pre-existing conditions. Well, OK, the key there is pre-existing. Why didn't he/she have health care before; why weren't they paying into the system before? Now that they're older and of poor health, they want to jump onboard, even though they haven't paid a dime into the system - which is how insurance works. Why are people having such a hard time understanding this?

And your "solution" isn't a solution - it's garbage. Your answer to people with pre-existing conditions is "it's your fault, too bad"? Seriously? That's your solution? So my friend who was born with a congenital heart condition - it's her fault that she didn't have private insurance when she was IN THE WOMB? Because private insurance companies won't cover her, and she's 24.

Simple fact, jack: the best way to lower costs is to regulate or replace the insurance companies, which by themselves add 20% to 25% to medical costs. All of those other things you mention will have to happen as well, but why should anyone care about protecting the profits of faceless corporations?
