Do unpaid university fines affect your credit rating?

I am living in an on campus university apartment for the summer and received a fine (messy room). I am not a student here am a part of a summer program, so they can't keep me from graduating or registering for classes at my university. I don't think the fine is just, so I'm wondering if not paying it will affect my credit rating, as that's the only way i can see of them punishing me.
 
You can always file for fine forgiveness with the human resources or student life. They will review your explanation and stay on the better side. It happened to me once.
