Im the defendant in a criminal case.. I have subpoena 2 witnesses, one of them lives like 400 miles away in Norcal and i live in Socal.. i already paid $135 to fly her down here but as far as sleeping she cant and i wouldnt want her staying at my house.. is it really my responcibility to house here while shes down here? Since im still innocent until proven guilty and their prosecuting ME shouldnt the courts pay for a hotel or something? Shes coming on a Thursday and leaving the next Monday. 5 days in a hotel is alot of money, i just think its a little ridiculous. Any advice.

really? The court system is set up to make money not pay money. You are there at least partially for the profit of the state not the other way around.

No, it is not the responsibility of the court and nor should it be. It's really not your responsibility to fly her out and make sure she has room and board. That is entirely up to her. If she is subpoenaed by the court she is required to come. The court has to be independent. They can't use money for your case. Firstly, the court doesn't have the money to do so. Secondly, you are innocent until proven guilty, but it is your responsibility to get the evidence to counter the prosecutions to prove your innocence, it's not the courts responsibility. You put yourself into the situation to possibly be guilty of the crime... thats your problem. Not the courts. Lastly, what happens when a person is found guilty. Why does the court have to support that person's case even further from being sent to prison, jail or probation. All those services cost money. Its your problem, not the courts. Don't get in trouble next time.
