Do Student Loans force you to NOT claim your college child as a depend?

If I read the tax laws correctly, then I cannot claim my child as a dependent if they are in college and living with me the entire year BECAUSE my child has a student loan out in his name. AND, it is $8600 per year. So, that would mean I would have had to have provided $17,200 worth of support to him in order to claim him as a dependant (because you, as a parent, need to pay for 50% more than your child did in order to claim him.
Even though the loan doesn't get paid until 4 years from now? Do I have that correct?
