Do quail eggs in cans still in their shells/non-cooked?

This is going to sound like a bit of a stupid question, but I wanted to hard-boil some quail eggs. Every where I looked only had them in cans, and from some research that seems normal. It just seems to me that putting an egg in a can in an unrefrigerated area would mean that they're out of their shells and everything. Usually things off of unrefrigerated shelves are able to be eaten right out of the can. So, is there another form I should look for or should I just buy the can?
