I was involved in a car accident and the other driver wanted to settle without going through the insurance companies. I didn't like the idea to begin with, but I also think there was no point. I was told by my insurance company that since there was a police report filed, the insurance companies will find out anyways. The other driver is saying that even though the police know, they won't tell the insurance companies, and these companies wouldn't know about the accident if I hadn't called them about it.
Would the police have told the insurance companies about the accident, even if we settled the repairs ourselves and I never called my insurance company? This happened in Canada.
