Do people think that premarital sex and pregnancy is new in the US?

It has always gone on. It is just more openly talked about and accepted now.

It used to be, up until as late as the fifties, that if a girl got pregnant out of wedlock, the parents shipped her off somewhere else to have the baby to save face, and they made up a story as to why she went away. Then they made her give the baby up for adoption to save face for the family. Sad really.....

How many people think that it is a sign that we are less moral now?

How often were kids born out of wedlock in early America?

The fact is neither is new. However, the legalization of killing an unwanted child due to premarital sex pregnancy is relatively new, with the famous Roe v. Wade case making precedence almost 40 years ago, and that shows a sharp decline in the morality of the times...

According to the book "The Churching of America," about a third of all couples in the late 18th century had their first child less than nine months after the wedding.

I've done some genealogical research and in going through old record books found the same thing all through the colonial period and the early nineteenth century. A rather large number of couples had their first child four or five months after the wedding.

As for the 20th century, teen pregnancy rates peaked in the late 1950s and, except for a slight blip in the early nineties, have declined steadily since then.

Premarital sex is not new, nor is it more prevalent now than it has ever been. Those who don't study history won't know that, of course, they'll just believe anything some pastor tells them.

People have been having sex before marriage since the dawn of humanity. It's not moral decline it's just something that happens. The only ddifference is girls aren't austrisized for getting pregnant now.

Yes they do believe that. Amazing isn't it? They actually believe that people were much more moral during Colonial times even though there is nothing to support their claims.

@answer man "And do you think 40% of teens had std's like NYC today"

Probably a LOT higher than that before "stupid scientists" developed antibiotics.

Tell us the answer. How many did?
And do you think 40% of teens had std's like NYC today?
Unlikely.
Don't try to excuse our having raised a gereration of animals by saying previous generations were animals.

I think I know more many children born out of wedlock than those born with married parents.

In the 60s, during the hippie days, people started to rebel and demanded that they do WHATEVER THEY WANT. And in the late 60s/70s it's been proven. There was literally a sex place on almost every block.

All that came to a halt in the 80s when HIV/AIDS was introduced. Since then, condoms made it alright to do it again.

And yes, I agree that the United States has become less moral now than it was 50 years ago.

Sex isnt the problem, in the 90s teen pregnancy was declining, now in the 2000s we see a rapid increase of teen pregnancies, IDK why, but i do know these are the statistics. interestingly enough crime was on the decline in the 90s too and is now on the rise again.....hhmmm

Its not new, but what it has become is perfectly acceptable and that has done some serious damage to our country.

Majority of criminals, high school dropouts, out of wed teenage pregnancies come from homes with single parents.

It is not helping our society that premarital sex and out of wedlock children has had a major impact and not for the better. Whats worse is that its almost a badge of honor now to be a single parent.

edit
and to top it all off who is paying to raise a lot of those kids born to single parents????
heres a hint, its not the mother or father
