do people race the mazda 626?

i thought it was like a family car but all over youtube people are showing their top speeds and dyno and stuff like that. I was looking into it because im looking at buying a 97 626 as my first car so i was like wtf?
 
you dont like the mx6 from the same year? (1997)

it has the same base as the 626, even the engine is the same but with a sportier look

so race a 626 is samething as race a mx6 but with different bodies
