Do people go to church for their own selfish desire?

I was sitting down with my sister earlier who is taking a philosophy course at St. Thomas University, and they were discussing the topic of religion. She was frustrated by the bias of her professor, who is a strong catholic, so to cope she talks with me about what she learns there.

While we were talking about the class, she presented me the following question: "What if humans were invincible and could live forever?". This particular question was not discussed in the class, but she asked me it personally.

I believe if that were to be true then people would not go to church. Why would they attend besides professing their faith? If they were covered in this life for eternity, why spend time attending something that would be useless to them if they were to never die?

Which makes me wonder if most people attend church to go to heaven and ask God for things, do they go to church for their own selfish reasons? Does anybody attend church simply to profess their love for God?
