do parents have to pay their children's tax?

i know that when a child work, the parent has to pay tax for them and then at the year the child can get that money back. on the other hand, the parent has to pay more tax for themselves b/c of increase in their income. so does that mean the tax money isn't really given back?

or anyother way of explaining it is....the gov. return the child's tax but takes more of the parents money for tax

is that true?
