I recently took out a contract(1.5 months) with orange for £35 per month, I have learned today that I will be paid off from my employer at the end of the month, I cannot afford the bill now, will orange blacklisted the handset? I will need to set up a payment plan with them while prob using a pay a you go sim till I can get another position.

They won't -- or at least they shouldn't -- as the handset isn't lost or stolen. Only the SIM card should be affected. If you're worried about this, you should write them a "for the avoidance of doubt" letter and keep the reply.

The phone should be OK but you will get a black mark against you - and anyone else living at the same address as you - making it harder to get credit etc. (including a new phone contract) if you stop paying the bills. Go to see orange or phone them up and explain the situation. You might be able to change your tariff to a more affordable amount (though you might have to sign up to a longer contract with cheaper monthly bills). That way you won't get a poorer credit rating.
