...a striped shirt and... ? beret on?
And what does "sacre bleu" mean and do the French say it often?

lol i'm not sure; and i have forgotten about that phrase, completley slipped my mind

Sorry to disagree with people, but the French onion sellers did come across to England selling strings of onions. They rode bikes and they wore berets - this was in the late 50's and a double string of onions was 6 shillings. We couldn't afford that much and persuaded one to sell us a single bunch for three shillings (15 pence) - My housekeeping money for food for 2 adults and a baby at that time was £3 per week so 6 shillings (30 pence) was expensive, considering that mince beef and Cod, were less than 2 shillings (10 pence) a pound. I never recall one of them saying "sacre bleu"!

No, these were Bretons anyway. I think Dylan Thomas claimed to have met one once. It does not seem to me to be an economic prospect.

The French do not say sacré bleu much, nor nom du chien. You read too many back copies of Hurricane, I suspect.

You've never been to France have you?
No, they don't. And no, I personally have never seen a french person wear a beret. And I have a LOT of french friends. They're too stylish for that steriotypical crap.

Dont know what sacre bleu means but i know they dont have oinions and bikes. Conjours up images of the tv programme Allo Allo
