advancement of civilization? As with many things in life, "progress" is relative.

Also, civilization does not "move" in a linear way. If you think it does, please explain how barbarian invasions of Europe in the 4th-6th centuries advanced civilization.
 
They are embarrassed by the word "Liberal."

So they came up with "Progressive."

It makes them sound like they're the ones pushing some new, grand utopia, but really they're just lame socialists and don't realize it.

Liberals will love to tell you "Progressives" in the 1770's made this country.

We are progressive. It sure beats the Party of "No" and being stuck in the past.
 
acutally "progressive" is very bipartisan. Wilson and Teddy Roosevelt both called themselves progressives because they were both bringing change in the country which was completely true. So because liberals are trying to change the government for the better it is completely legitimate to call themselves progressives

also, improvements in sword making and metallurgy facing the threat of invasions

ever hear of the VIKINGS
they ushered in a entire new era of advancement in europe
they brought new ship building techniques,art, technology, seamanship and like tons of stuff I cannot remember
