Do Jeep Wranglers use gear oil for tranny fluid?

I have a 2.5L 93 YJ Wrangler and the guy at Canadian Tire gave me gear oil (75w90) and said thats what the Jeeps use for tranny fluid.. This seemed strange but I bought it anyways, however I'm still nearvous to put it in. Can anyone confirm what this guy is saying? Thanks people
