Do instant messages or emails count as text messages when using the Motorola Droid on...

...Verizon? I would never have thought that instant messaging on the Droid would count as text messages, but then I read Verizon's website that says the "Talk & Text" plan includes:

"Unlimited Messaging for sending and receiving (i) Text, Picture, Video and Voice Messages with Verizon Wireless and non-Verizon Wireless customers in the United States; (ii) Text, Picture, Video and Voice Messages sent via email; (iii) Instant Messages"

To me, this seems to imply that every instant message counts as a text message, and that if you don't get the "Talk & Text" plan with unlimited messaging (which I don't have and don't really want to get), you'll be billed for every instant message just as if it were a text.

Is this true, or is it simply a misleading description on Verizon's part?

Thanks!
