Do I need to paint the fiberglass body/tub of my Jeep?

I have this great Jeep Scrambler, but it has been out of commission due to rust. I've finally saved up enough to buy a new fiberglass tub. The tub is in white, which is the color I want anyway. Do I still need to have it painted? Is there a gloss coat I could put on it?

Chances are it has a gel coat on it (the white color). If so, that is the "paint" and it is good to go. Fiberglass requires special paint to seal it. It also needs to be fully cured before painting or the paint will bubble and lift.
Ask the manufacturer if it is gel coated.

The white is a dye put in the resin of the fiberglass or gel coat. You can sand this down and put on a clear gel coat and leave it as long as the gel coat has U.V. protection.

You can paint fiberglass, it is just done using different base materials. No it doesn't have to be painted as the colour is mixed in already. Gloss coat? Is it dull? Then yes paint it.

that would be likened to base coat on a paint job,now have a local body/paint shop put several coats of clearcoat ,hope you don't plan to haul stuff in it,however if you do have it sprayed with bed liner material.
