Do I need to keep power cycling my ps3 for the JB to work?

I have a Playstation 3 fat with f/w 3.41. I also have an Ipod Video 5g that I can use Rockbox Hermes v4 to jailbreak my ps3. I also know that in order to jailbreak it, you hard power cycle the ps3, like unplug ps3, plug ipod, turn ps3 on and push eject. so do i have to do this everytime if i want to launch backup manager? or just power cycle once, install package files, and not need to do this again?
