Do i need to join a gym to lose weight?

Hey i am needing to lose more or less 50lbs between now and August, i aim to do it gradually and healthily, i plan to eat a lot better to begin with, and of course i plan to excercise more often. I play amateur football once a week.... i keep getting told by my coaches to get in the gym... however there is a problem with this.
The 2 gyms in my area are only offering 12 month contract binding memberships, and they are priced at £47 and £35 (approx $72 and $54) per month along with a £30 joining fee..... which realistically isn't something i can afford right now as my hours at work have been reduced, and i'm not keen on the idea of being stuck in a 12 month contract either.

I have some free weights at home.... i have a bicycle.... along with running and sit ups and press ups etc. do you think this is substantial enough along with my healthy eating to be able to lose weight, or is joining the gym going to be the only way of me achieving this??

Any tips/advice much appreciated, thanks.
