Do I need to have a mechanic look at a certified car I plan to buy?

I plan to buy a certified pre-owned car? Do I need to bother having a mechanic look at it?

I would say not, as long as the certified car is coming from a dealer for a car manufacturer. Their cars are certified, inspected, and warrantied according to the manufacturer's standards and should be pretty safe without an independent inspection.

However, if your car is coming from an independent used car dealer, I would be very wary of his "certified" cars. It might be just a ploy to get a higher price, without a real inspection.
