Do I need to go to small claims court or what?

Ex friend of mine borrowed my TV to test it out cause he planned to buy it. The next day he texted me along with a bunch of profanity saying I'm trying to rip him off and it doesn't work. BS. He claims he left it with a friend cause he was going to Vegas. I never heard from his friend. He claims he doesn't know where it is. I think he stole it. What can I do to get it back? Small claims? Do I need a lawyer for that? Help!!

In IL you do not need a lawyer in small claims court. It is up to the judge to decide after they hear both sides.

If you can prove you left the TV in your ex-friend's possession so he could test it out and he hasn't returned it, he owes you for it.

You don't need an attorney in Small Claims Court.

If you can show the court that your ex-friend took your TV, left it with a friend, and now doesn't know where it is, he's toast.

Go for it. Just don't talk too much. Make your statement short and to the point. If the judge has any questions, he will ask you.
