Do i need hiking boots?

i am going hikin in cades cove down in TN and I was wondering if i could purchase some hiking boots so i dont get all blistered up. I wouldnt really need them after i go on the one hike but I do own some land here in town I guess i could use them on for working in the yard. is it worth it?
