Do I need a Zip drive/disk to convert Txt into Html?

Hi I'm starting to learn xhtml on notepad but I've heard to actually see it it's got to be turned into html but the only options I have when saving is TXT and All Files.. I've heard about html extensions but I have no idea how or where to get one.. can you please help me?

Is there somewhere I can get a html extension?
Do I need a Zip drive/disk to convert txt to Html?
..or am I way off base :(
