Do I need a portfolio to apply college?

Ok, so I am considering taking architecture as a major in college. I am a sophomore in high school.

The portfolio here means a binder, which consists of two portions.

One of them is like a resume but it is more detail than that. I wrote my feedbacks and feelings after a science competition or math contest.

The other one is the art portfolio, it ensembles every my paintings or sculptures in here.

therefore the binder is a bit huge.

If I want to take architecture as a major in college, is that necessary to send the huge binder to the college?

I am asking because that would cost us a lot!

Will colleges like MIT or Caltech impressed if I send the application companies with the binder?

Because those well-expected colleges focus less on art, I think

Thanks so much
not "ensembles", wrong typing
