Do I need a new fuel pump for my 2004 Ford Ranger?

Lately my 04' Ford Ranger has been acting up..
My gf went to start it a couple weeks ago and it wouldn't start.. 10mins later I went out and it started.. Someone suggested it was vapor locking.

Then three nights ago I was driving, stopped, turned my truck off, and less than 10 minutes later it would not start..

All of my fluid levels are fine.. spark plugs great.. brand new battery.. etc.

so a friend of mine came out and tried to release pressure from the little valve on the fuel injector and NO AIR or GAS came out..

So.. do I need a new fuel pump? Can I use a universal one? If, so!? Where can I get either of those for cheap?

And another thing.. when I turn my key over it goes to fire.. but doesn't actually fire.. everything but the fuel pump seem to be okay..

check the fuel pump relay and fuel pump fuse first, then replace the fuel filter, if its none of those its probably the fuel pump, but check the fuel pump relay and fuse first, then replace fuel filter and last the fuel pump

and just so you know air isn't supposed to come out of the fuel injector, air goes through the intake valve separate from the fuel and the fuel system is sealed so no air will be in the system except for in the gas tank

Odds are if it were a fuel pump it would just not work anymore. But if you think it is that, you can get one at Pep Boys, Auto Zone, etc.. try replacing your fuel filter. Sounds like it may be dirty and have water in it. always try to start with the easiest, cheapest guess first. Good Luck

A quick fix for a dying fuel pump is to actually get under the vehicle and "spank" the bottom of the gas tank. Sometimes this allows the fuel pump to start back up. Before you replace the fuel pump you need to replace the fuel filter. The fuel filter is like $10 at Autozone. If that don't work it probably is the fuel pump. The fuel pump is about $60 and is located inside the gas tank.
