Do i need a netgear PCI Adapter or Wieless USB Adapter for a netgear wireless router?

yeah, questions says it all. If not mandatory, what brand (and possibly model) should i get for either a PCI Adapter or Wieless USB Adapter (because the netgear adapters suck!) or maybe both if it increases the rate from a somewhat far distance.
