Do I need a LED bulb flasher units for my brake lights?

I'm planning to install LED (smd) light bulb for my 02 civic brake light (not the 3rd brake light), but I want to make sure if it is a require that I have to get the "LED bulb flasher units"? Or is that just for the signal light?

Will my aftermarket led brake light burn out without the LED bulb flasher unit?

I need a car mechanic expert or someone who had done this before to answer this.
