Do i need a heater for my 20 gallon fish tank.?

My heater has high and low setting.Do i need to run the heater (50 watts) my tank is in living room where i run air conditioner all day.If i put it on low will it kick off by its self.
 
It depends on the type of fish, but usually its a good idea. You can look online or ask the pet shop what temperature you should set the tank for depending on your type of fish. I just bought 4 fish and a frog yesterday:) i love them.

It probably wouldn't hurt to run it on low even though it kicks off but if your fish begin gathering around the heater then you know it's getting too cold and you need to turn the heat up
