Do I need a HDMI cable if I have a Rogers HD box? Do i need a DVI cable?

do i need a hdmi cable if i have a rogers hd box for my samsung LCD tv. Now i also read something about a DVI cable? whats that? do i need that to connect my dvd to the tv????? cause i have a hdmi cable i thought i needed it and the rogers lady said its upto me if i put it or not. so will it make a difference????? will the picture come out more better?

Also if i DONT have a HD box from rogers and use my digital box from rogers and use the hdmi cable to connect to the tv will the hd still work????
