Do I have to pre-order Mw3 to get it at Midnight?

This is my first Midnight Release I decided to go to, so I'm not quite up to speed on how things work.

I was just going to show up at 10, wait, buy it, and go home..but are there more complications to midnight releases than I thought there was? ._.

Any help would be appreciated.
