Do I have to pay to call apple support?

My ipod touch is less than a year old (Got it Christmas last year). Last night i turned it off and then when I go to turn it on this morning, it does not work. I've gone through the regular trouble shooting and realized the power button isn't responding AT ALL. So looking at my options for support I realize it says you can only call apple support within 90 days of purchase? How is this helpful? Will I really have to pay to find out what's going on with my ipod?
