Do i have to pay extra for mobile IM on my verizon wireless phone?

I have the LG env2 from verizon and i want to use mobile IM (AIM). I know that it is free if u have unlimited texting. But i have unlimited texting from verizon to verizon but if i wanted to text to someone with AT&T. i have 1500 texts sent and received to other people that don't have verizon. So if i used mobile IM would it take some away from my 1500 or would it be free.
