Do I HAVE to get the data plan for the iphone (rogers) ?

Rogers does not sell the iPhone at a subsidized rate without a data plan, so for example the iPhone 16GB 3Gs is $199 if you get a data plan, and $699 if you don't. You can get plans for the iPhone that include both voice and data starting from $50 per month.

so I'm thinking of buying an iphone from rogers with the 3 year contract plan and I was wondering if I have to get the data plan for the iphone because I don't intend to use internet on my phone and it's also cheaper so I was wondering if it was MANDATORY to get the data plan in order for the phone to work.

I wanted to buy a new one cuz I had 2 before and my dad is not gonna buy me a new one unless I buy it myself and pay for it myself so basically I want cheaper cuz I'm 14 and all so ya not alot of money in hand
