My truck: 1993 Chevy S10 6cyl 2.8L
Here's the problem. A few weeks ago my truck wouldn't start so I took it to my dad..who's an ok mechanic. His first thought was that the injectors were bad. So he went to the junk yard and pulled the injectors from a 1989 Chevy and a 1992. I didn't realize he had done this. He didn't even check what engine size those trucks were . He just saw that they all looked identical.
Anyway, we then realized it wasn't the injectors. It turned out to be the fuel pump. We replaced that with a new one and now my truck runs.
However, it used to average about 20-21 mpg, now it only gets about 11 mpg
.
And although it runs pretty well, it feels a little funny... I really can't describe it, but like something is a bit off.
My question is this: Can the wrong fuel injectors cause that big a difference in the gas mileage?
The problem is now we have 6 identical looking injectors and we don't know which are the right ones. I would hate to buy new ones since they're very expensive and I feel my original ones were probably fine.
So if this is causing my problem... is there any way to figure out which are the right injectors? Can I take them to a shop and get some kind of test done on them?
Please help me out with this problem
Thanks!
