The display on the Moto is larger, and higher resolution. The CPU is also approximatley twice the speed of the Eris - The "clock rate" doesn't look much more, but the CPU on the Motorola is a Coretex A-8, and the processor on the Eris is the much older ARM-11 processor. Even at the same "speed" that Coretex A8 architecture can process about 2X the information in the same time as the ARM-11 processor in the Eris.
I have the Moto. my daughter has the Eris. I wouldn't change to the Eris for anything... I gave the choice to my daughter, before our 30 day eval period was up to switch to the Motorola from the Eris, and she declined... It's really a personal matter of which phone you like.
