do history classes keep you in the cave or out of it?

in the allegory of the cave,in the cave is like facing a blank wall,once let out of the cave things aren't as expected.the person sees the true form of reality.

I do think History clases keep us in the cave. Its due to the censorship and restrictions they have, therefore they gloss over the "nasty" parts of History or don't even mention. Thus keeping us in the cave. If they also told us about the dark part of history and the truth then maybe people wouldn't be so naive. Its even worst when you send these people to reality. Its like you give a soldier a gun, but your giving him blanks.
 
depends on the class and teacher...
Most History is written by the victors of conflicts and thus you will see only that point of view. Good teachers (usually in higher education systems <not that there aren't great teachers in secondary and below>) will take the time to try to point out the others side as well.

Higher Learning gives the teachers more freedoms than do Grade and HS so they can elab. more.
