Do girls expect a guy to initiate a chat on Facebook?

The girls on my camous are always hollering at me during school but when i see them on Facebook they never holler at me not even to say hi.
Is this the expected chatiquette,,,kind of like how girls wait and expect you to call them back after a date? I am saying this because several girls who have a crush on me have no problem walking up to me in public but in facebook they do not.

I dont know maybe its me. What do you guys think
 
I'd prefer guys to initiate the conversation on Facebook but it doesn't necessarily mean I wouldn't start an IM.

Just try it, see how it goes from there.
