Do Flood lights contain mercury?

I just replaced some flood lights in my home and i was wondering if i should simply throw them away or send them off to a recycling center for safety. I hear Rumors that flood lights contain mercury as well as the modern "twisty" light bulbs, is it true? and how do i dispose of them safely.
