Do dogs have mental illness? My son says my new one is two fries short of a happy meal?

She still hides under the bed and only comes out when I pull her out. She was behind the couch but I was trying to talk to her and feed her so she went to the bedroom under the bed again. She is smart enough to open the door.

She won't eat most of the time. I find something she will eat once and then the next time she won't even look at it. The vet said that she is healthy. She got sick from refusing food yesterday and I finally got some chicken broth down her. She does the same with water, sometimes she will not drink for eight hours. Other times she drinks often. I have had her for two weeks. I cannot train her with treats as she will not eat them, turns her head to all of them. The only thing that she has eaten the way a dog eats, was macaroni and cheese. It was desperation that made me give it to her. I have tried many types of dog food to no avail.

She is more in hiding now than when we first got her. I am very good to her and she seems to love me. When she is out for the few minutes to go potty she gets close to me and looks like she cares. Then she goes right back into hiding. HELP!
I gave her the mac and cheese as she would not eat anything. she gets so hungry she gets sick. I got her from the shelter where she had only been for five days. My last dog was timid to a point so I did not mind it again but this one is just beyond timid to not being around. I feel like I do not have a dog. I have tried everything I know to do. I hate the crate idea but think that may be the answer for a while. At least she would be where I can talk to her. She tried ot communicate with me this morning by a few whimpers. It was like talking almost. I love her already and do not think of giving her up but just want a dog to hold.
