Do cats need to be outdoors to be happy?

They do not need to be an outdoor to be happy. There are plenty of toys you can buy for them and keep them happy inside. It's very dangerous for cats out there. Inside cats have less vet bills while outdoor cats have a lot more. You can keep them safe from getting hit by a car, beaten by a dog, abused by animal abusers, free of fleas, mites and many other dangerous things. There are cat trees sold at petsmart and even cheaper on craiglist. People can buy those and keep them in certain areas in the house. Watch the cat fall in love with it. The only reason a cat would be depressed inside is if he or she is not getting enough attention. It will get bored and find ways to escape.

Most cats like indoors better, it keeps them cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Also it prevent your cat from getting into fight with other territorial neighbor hood cats.

I have been the owner of many cats. Most do enjoy the freedoms of outside. But if the cat is de-clawed remember it has no way to defend itself. A decent amount of cats that I have had prefered indoors with alot of love and stimulation such as the balls the mice and the feathered toys. I hope that your cat has a happy and healthy life.

No, they do not. If your cat has never been outdoors, he will be perfectly happy and safe indoors...

I have one cat who has never been outdoors and will not even go near the door ever. I rescued an outdoor cat a few years ago and she also never goes to the door. I think she was traumatized and I have another cat which when I adopted her, she was an indoor/outdoor cat with previous owners. That one, I need to watch all the time as she watches the doors. She has slipped outside a few times but I was lucky enough to catch her as I live on a very busy road. I do take her for stroller rides and she loves it.

If you do let a cat out, that's it. It will always want to go out and it is too dangerous nowadays for cats to be roaming by themselves...
