Do cars make weird sounds when the timing is off?

Hi! I was driving my car & noticed this rattling sound. Sounded as if it was under my car. No matter if I drive fast or slow it makes that sound & increases with speed. Kinda sounds like a chain. I am taking my car to a mechanic & I do not expect to get a diagnoses over the net. I just wanna have some idea w/what I am dealing w/. Thanks...
 
Well some times the chain makes sounds but its not necessary its a timing chain. It might be the crank shaft is warn out and bent or the connecting rods. so it you can hear it from the bottom of the engine, that means it has something to do with the crank shaft.
 
If it's a ticking noise that goes faster with more gas, it might be that you have an exhaust leak, but seriously...have a friend who's good with cars look at it. but remember, everyone's a pro when you need help.
