Do BMX type trick bicycles that will go backwards while pedaling backwards coast while

going forward? Or do the pedals keep turning as if they are in direct drive with the rear sprocket? Or is there some kind of clutch mechanism that allows rear direction pedaling and forward direction pedaling and/or coasting?
 
AFAIK, they have to be fixed gear to go backwards, in which case you wouldn't be able to coast while going forwards. Of course, there could be something I don't know about, but that is my understanding.
