Do ATT prepaid phones get as good of coverage as regular ATT contract phones?

Last time i crossed the country, my sister's ATT phone got coverage 100% of the way. Now we are looking to cross again, without her phone. We want to get a prepaid phone, but we want to make sure it does just as good.
